Ever wondered what the best way to go about Halloween hair is?  Yeah, us too!

…Kidding!

There are definitely tricks to treat your hair right while making it costume ready.

In this blog we go over different types of Halloween hair & at the end you’ll find tidbits!

1) Crazy Wild Hair – Think Beetlejuice or Albert Einstein; Temporary color sticks or sprays work best. Tease your hair to high heavens AND THEN spray it with the color. When teasing/ratting/backcombing USE PRODUCTS to assist with the hold and ease. Specifically, backcombing powders like Big Sexy Powder Play (drugstore or Ulta) or Beyond the Zone Volumizing Powder (Sally’s beauty).

2) Wigs – Think Ariel or Elsa;  if you need your whole head a different hair color, we recommend a wig. Spice your wig up with using accessories like a starfish clip or spray glitter. This helps keep the wig hair out of your face and/or securing it to your natural hair in a cute fashion.

3) Props – Costumes like Cindy Lou Hoo may require getting creative with the hair. Instead of teasing the hair to high heavens, we recommend using a prop like a Styrofoam shaper or a sock bun. It’s going to save you time, product, arm strength, and potential hair breakage.

4) Teased Hair – DO NOT rake it out at the ends of the night. Get it the shower, shampoo as best as you can without creating much friction (this shampooing doesn’t have to be perfect, just to break the hairspray down. Don’t swirl your hair or make circle movements while cleansing just light back and forth or downward motions) After that, apply a GENEROUS AMOUNT of conditioner or hair mask. Use a wide tooth comb or wet brush to comb it out. Start at the bottom/ends and work upward. I would recommend using the conditioner treatment/mask for your next wash as well. Breakage and dryness are especially prevalent after all this. Plus, it can’t hurt.

5) Hot tools – If you’re using extreme heat for your costume, we recommend a 5-star heat protectant. It never hurts to carry this practice through Halloween and make a habit of it when using hot tools. We would also recommend if you’re heavy on the heat for Halloween, to lay off for the next couple days.

–TID BITS —

  • Do not use oily or cream based temporary colors if your hair is super super blonde or extremely porous hair. Super blonde, dry, or even blonde ethnic hair (naturally dry & porous) can absorb these products leaving traces of colors behind. This is actually a technique used to temporarily color Dreadlocks! Its recommended to use sprays instead but please note, color sprays can also leave traces of color on light hair.
  • Spray your hair with your temporary color sprays AFTER your costume is on. This is to avoid smudging or getting color on your costume.
  • Do not heat style wigs!! This could melt the hair because most Halloween wigs are not of the best quality hair or technically even hair at all. If you want to ignore this warning and try anyways DO NOT use high heat as high heat hot tools shouldn’t even be used on real hair extensions/wigs anyways.
  • After lots of research, Party City’s spray hair color is voted one of the best for hair.

HAVE FUN, BE SAFE, AND HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
