We would like to take this moment/blog post to do our part in responding to the current national & world events.

As a business we did stay more reserved, longer than others. This is not because we were unsure of the current events, it was taken as a moment to process. We decided to take a moment to process because, simply put, there is A LOT going on and it seems like with each passing week the list grows.

One of our core values of being a green salon is the intention to treat every living thing, human or not, with equal respect. We believe that every human being, insect, animal, and plant has a purpose. Not just a purpose but a basic right to be in the present moment and to live freely with dignity.

As a green salon we have an abundance of empathy. Appreciation for the planet, the animals, the ocean; affinity in the way humans have mistreated each of these things. This has been helpful in the sense that when the world needed us to think about other’s safety before our own, we could. Being in the salon industry, we have always been familiar with disinfecting and if we have to do it 8 times more throughout the day to keep our guests safe, then so be it. If we have to wear a mask in order to keep our immunocompromised and elderly client’s safe, then so be it. We will do all we are advised to maintain a healthy, safe, functioning place of business and beauty.

Empathy as a salon employee becomes a part of our core values & daily life. As a cosmetologist one of the main aspects of our job is connection. Authentic connection is the true fuel to our line of work. We must be able to put ourselves in others’ shoes to provide many things like connection, the proper haircut, a basic understanding to behaviors. There are many reasons we could provide you with pertaining to why we must be capable of empathy, warmth, and understanding.

Although we may not agree or understand our client’s point of views on current events taking place, we will never let that stop us from providing the SAME amount of respect to each & every individual that walks through our door. No matter the age, gender, size, color, whatever it may be; we vow to treat everyone with equality and respect.

We welcomingly accept all quirks and flaws. We realize that with all good, comes bad. With all things beautiful, something ugly follows. We condemn violence. There is no place in our hearts for it. We refuse to participate in the name calling & shaming. There is no place for it in our atmosphere. We will not entertain the idea that one individual is above another.

We are going to contradict our industry and say this: It does not matter what your outer shell appearance looks like. One is not inferior or superior to others based on physical traits & appearances. One becomes inferior/superior to another by actions taken. By the way they converse with others and make others feel. It has absolutely nothing to do with looks and everything to do with how we treat one another.

So as a salon we ask this of you, the general public:

-Actively practice love

-Greet each day with gratitude & appreciation

-Educate yourself and where one can take an approach to educate others- do so, kindly.

-Spread humor & joy

-Wash your hands often

-Pay it forward & expect nothing in return

-Speak good-natured words only

-Turn the phone/TV/news/computer off

-Enjoy the outdoors

-Breathe in nose 4 seconds, hold for 7, release out the mouth for 8.

Do not let fear consume you. Do not let hatred motivate you. Do not let the ugly outshine the beautiful nor the dark shadow out the light. Let’s not make the hard times harder.
